Sega has announced that Bayonetta is to be region locked. Whilst this is not so unusual for Xbox 360 games, it may come as a surprise to PS3 owners.
Sony’s system, whilst having the capability to have region encoded games, has by and large had the majority of it’s games region free (Though the same can not be said for its Bluray player unfortunately). A small blessing for those of us who enjoy importing games from Japan, especially the ones that never see the light of day elsewhere.
But PS3 and 360 owners shall not have this option declares Sega. The reason for this apparently is that they don’t want importers damaging sales figures in America and Europe. Which strikes me as a rather idiotic move, as the only people who would be really bothered to import Bayonetta (a new I.P no less) would be a very small selection of ‘hardcore’ enthusiasts. A number that would not damage sales figures in any significant manner I imagine. And of course, such people probably also have the know-how to obtain the game illegally or play a Japanese copy on a modded console.
Regardless, Bayonetta is stated for a October release in Japan later this year with the western release being some time in early 2010. Which of course you can be ready for by pre-ordering it here at VGC right now.
