Sources close to the sequel claim that the game is indeed being localized.
Last week Aaron Webber told PlayStation.Blog that Sega was taking a hard look at localizing Yakuza 3 for North American and European audiences. He went so far as to call previous stories of Yakuza’s no show “false.” According to 1UP, Sega has finally made that decision as localization is already under way for the PS3 exclusive.
Yakuza 3 was developed by Sega’s Amusement Vision and released in Japan in late February exclusively for the PS3. The title received high marks from Japan’s Famitsu magazine – 38/40. Yakuza 3, actually the fourth game in the Yakuza series behind Yakuza, Yakuza 2 and a spin-off title, continues the story of Kiryu Kazuma from the first two titles. Yakuza 3 also takes place in the same Japanese locations as its predecessors.
Our Reaction:
Given last week’s discussion with Aaron Webber, Sega of America’s assistant community manager, the rumor certainly seems highly plausible. You can forgive the timing of Webber not knowing it was already being localized because it was probably a decision made by Sega of Japan. We’ll likely find out during Tokyo Game Show, where we will also get a first look at Yakuza 4.
