Again with more rumours, but this one is seems far more likely then the others. A Best Buy memo sent out to employees tells them that the Wii’s highly mooted price cut is to be officially announced by Nintendo on the 25th September, this friday.
This shouldn’t really come as a surprise to anyone. Analysts have been calling for months that Nintendo need to cut the price of the Wii to keep it competitive against rival consoles, who have both seen multiple price cuts already. Rumours have also been circulating forums and blogs, with other stores also seemingly confirming the cut via new fliers and advertisements.
Wii sales have started to lag recently, though still outselling all other competitors and only Nintendo’s own DS has beaten it in the monthly sales totals. Nintendo will be hoping a price cut will help stimulate sales in the run up to the Winter holidays as well as the upcoming release of Wii Fit Plus and New Super Mario Bros to ensure it stays ahead of its’ rivals.
