The latest installment of Nintendo’s ‘Iwata Asks’ column catches up with Treasure.
Iwata sits down with Treasure Ltd. to discuss everything from the development of Sin and Punishment for Nintendo 64 to getting Sin and Punishment 2 running at 60 FPS. The article has yet to make it to the English site, available here for those Japanese speaking readers, but we do have a translation of the talking points thanks to a Sin and Punishment blog and Babelfish:
- Developing for the N64 was a difficult process, for Treasure and HAL Laboratory.
- The developer decided to make the game run at 60 FPS when they heard Super Mario Galaxy would be running at that silky smooth rate.
- Demo units have been erected in Japan to prove that the game runs at a flawless 60 FPS.
- Treasure pulled original artist Suzuki Yasushi out of retirement for the title.
- The title was originally developed as a hardcore game using a Gamecube controller. When Wii Remote support was added Nintendo felt the game became too easy, and asked Treasure to retune the difficulty.
Sin and Punishment 2 will be available exclusively for the Wii in the first quarter of 2010.
Hello there, how are you? I think this is wonderful news. I downloaded and played the original Sin and Punishment as soon as it was released. I loved it, and greatly look forward to this sequel, especially since I saw the trailer. I wonder how it will compare to the first game in length? Also, the original Sin and Punishment had unique multiplayer – One player controls the character’s movement (running, jumping, rolling) while the other is in charge of aiming and attacking. I think that such a setup would be interesting on Wii. Have a great day!
