Krome Studios Lays Off Staff

ggn_krome_studios_logo_layoffsAnother studio gets hit by layoffs due to crappy economy.

The economy may be recovering, but that doesn’t mean developers are out of the woods.  According to IndustryGamers, Krome Studios has been forced to layoff “an undisclosed number of employees” from each of Krome’s three studios.  The cutbacks come as part of the obligatory “process of restructuring.”

“With declining game sales the industry is really feeling the effects of the struggling economy. In spite of industry wide cutbacks and Krome’s need to reduce costs, we’ve worked really hard to minimize the impact on our staff,” said Krome CEO Robert Walsh. “These cuts, while incredibly difficult as they affect the co-workers we consider friends, are necessary as we position Krome for the future. We’re also actively pursuing several business opportunities which, if secured, will enable Krome to reemploy some of the staff given notice.”

The Australian developer started off slow with a variety of uninteresting games, as far as the non-tween readers are concerned, before picking up during the last generation.   Since then Krome has developed a handful of Star Wars titles, including ports of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, and the recent Star Wars: Clone Wars – Republic Heroes.  Its only known current project is Blade Kitten, an “anime adventure game of girls, swords and big robots.”  We’ve contacted Krome for its status.

More as it comes.
