Nintendo’s brainchild confirms that Nintendo is working on new hardware, and that he’s working on a new game during a speech.
In a recent speech at the 13th Annual Japan Media Arts Festival Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that Nintendo is hard at work on new hardware. He didn’t give any specifics on the hardware – Wii HD, a new DS, etc – but the quip is the first confirmation that the company is hard at work on a new system of some kind.
In addition to giving a background of his illustrious career – Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong, Pikmin, Wii Sports, need I go on? – Miyamoto stated that he is back designing video games. In fact, he’s working on a new title that will make use of the Wii MotionPlus peripheral.
Miyamoto’s ideas are often from his real life, to the point that Nintendo asked him to stop speaking about his hobbies (his love of gardening became Pikmin). That didn’t stop him from revealing the real-life event that lead to Super Mario Galaxy, a hamster that he owned. I wonder where Super Mario Galaxy 2’s inspiration will be from…
How he got from a hamster to that amazing game I don’t know, but I’m not a game design prodigy.
Thanks to Andria Sang for the translations.
